Knee Pain and Knee Injuries

We see 2 classic types of knee pain as the Northern Beaches Knee pain experts. The first are people who remember hurting their knee. The second are people with knee pain who can’t think of when it happened. We love helping both!

DON’T REMEMBER HURTING IT?

As the knee sits between the hip and the ankle, the integrity of both of these joints is crucial in maintaining knee function. Often, people present with knee pain, yet a hip or ankle “problem”, meaning the solution is to fix the hip or ankle and the knee pain will go away.

Knee joints can suffer from overloading the knee in an inefficient manner. Over time this can lead to osteoarthritis (something that we can definitely help with!).

This overload is especially true for people who have ramped up the amount of activity they are doing. Sound like you? We see it all the time!

It’s really common to have pain without damage on a scan with knees! Every week we see at least 2 new patients who have “nothing!” on their knee scan. These are our favourite people to treat because they tend to improve really quickly in the beginning! Let’s get your life back.

It depends! After our thorough initial appointment assessment you will have a clear diagnosis and plan of what needs to happen next to ensure you are getting the best outcomes. Some injuries require surgery, while the majority do not. On the balance of probabilities, we will cross our fingers that you don’t need it!

A simple rule of thumb is “how long have you had pain for?”.

If you say 6 months, we will probably tell you it will take 6 months.

For injuries, typical healing time is 12 weeks, though it depends on the type and extent of injury.
