Chronic Pain Management Northern Beaches
The Fixio team are compassionate experts in managing difficult, complex and chronic presentations of pain. You’re in the right place.
What is chronic pain?
Pain is regarded as being “chronic” in nature when it does not go away and is experienced by a patient on most days of the week for at least 3 months. This is the medical definition of chronic. On the Northern Beaches, we at Fixio treat many patients who self define their pain as “chronic” because it is incredibly intense. We are experts at treating chronic pain; whether it is very painful, has been going on for a long time or both!
Here are some facts about chronic pain:
- 1 in 5 Australians suffer from chronic pain
- The leading cause of chronic pain is reported to be injury, commonly from playing sport, car accidents, home accidents and work accidents.
- Most people (>60%) with chronic pain report that their pain interferes with their daily activities.
- It interferes with a person’s sleep patterns, their sexual activity, their ability to work and conduct daily activities
- It can cause emotional distress and lead to serious mental health problems, including depression.
Chronic pain is treated by traditional practitioners with a low success rate. There are multiple considerations that need to be taken into account when treating someone with chronic pain and the answer doesn’t have to be long term medication, injections or surgery!
Do you want to take less medication and prevent injections and surgery?
Medication alone is not the most effective way to treat chronic pain.
It is best managed using a combination of different approaches. The combination may include pain-relief medication, but must include:
- Strength and conditioning of your body
- Mobility training
- Encouragement to do challenging tasks
- A supportive environment and team
- Mindful ativities
- Education around stress reduction
At Fixio our core measures for improvement are based around strength, flexibility and capacity for doing activities that are meaningful to you.
We have found in supporting people in chronic pain over the past decade that the “use it or lose it” principle plays a large role in your activity levels. If you are less active over time, due to your pain, you may start to lose muscle mass, flexibility, and strength. With less use your body finds it more difficult to carry out regular daily activities.

I came in with different injuries, and he could always explain where and why it hurt and gave me exercises to fix it. You’re the best!Posted on kate munroTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I've been seeing Jaeme for lower back and hip pain and she's fantastic. She's helped me recover from the initial injury with pain management and now I'm building strength with her gym program to prevent another injury. Highly recommend.Posted on Zander GeraldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jaeme Last has exceptional knowledge in general physio and recovery techniques. Especially running related symptoms and how to treat them effectively.Posted on Neil EdwardsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Daniel has looked after me for my broken elbow since straight after the plaster was removed. At every appointment my progress was measured and new exercises given to allow for the slow progress that was occurring early on which is common with this type of injury. Whilst Daniel is very good it is really up to the patient to carry out the stretching and excercises. He supports and encourages you in this endeavour so that you don't give up. He can massage the effected areas, stretch the joint to ease the pain, apply acupuncture to help the muscles relax and does this with a personality that makes even a painful session not as bad. I'd recommend him to anyone in the same situation as I've been in.
How do I know I’m in good hands?
Our clinic director, Damien, had chronic pain for 7 years. After a car accident at 17 he was left with constant, day-in day-out low back pain. It severely affected his life, unable to play sport as he wished or participate in activities with his friends.
He experienced the frustration of seeing multiple different practitioners and being told different diagnoses. Yet through perseverence, research and some mindset shifts, Damien once again became painfree and can participate fully in life fully.
The approach that he used to become painfree has been taught to the Fixio team. They are all well versed in the steady pace that it requires to break free from the pain cycle. You will feel it after your first sessio with us, that you are in the right place to get results.
If you would like to speak to Damien about his experience and hear his story, he’d love to speak with you. Call us on 8964 4086 and ask for a call back.
